Sarah Pearson
John is listed as head of household on the 1840 Newton Township Census with an unknown male between 20-29 and female between 15-19 which is probably his wife.  John and his family moved from Miami County, Ohio to Randolph County, Indiana sometime after February 1847.  It is believed that his brother Thomas followed him there.  They appear there on the 1850 Census.  Note the 1850 census shows North Carolina as his place of birth.  John died on January 9, 1853 in Randolph Co., IN at age 35.  His widow Sarah appears on the 1870 Ohio Census living with son John Marshall, his wife Sarah and their 2 young children.

Marshalltown - was a community of freed Randolph Slaves.  The Gillards, Hills, and Youngs purchased land in Newton Township in 1847 from John and Sarah Marshall.  The community lasted into the 1950's.  Today the land where the community existed is a field.  Visit this site for pictures and more information.
