Origin of the Gut Surname

Recorded as Gut, Guthe, Zoud, Zgud, Gutowski, and the female Gutowska, and possibly others, this is a Polish surname, but one arguably of German origins. It is said to originate from the word 'guthe' meaning good, or even god, and as such was probably a medieval nickname or name of endearment for a 'good person.' (Source)

Walenty Gut, son of Valentinus and Mary was born on January 15, 1893 in Poland. In 1914 he married Ludwiga 'Lucy" Kicak, daughter of John (Jan) Kicak and Mary Rozycka/Ruzycki in Worcester, MA. Lucy was born in 1897 in Lesko, Poland and died on March 17, 1994 in Worcester, MA. Walenty died in 1954 in Worcester, MA.

Richard Joseph Gut, son of Joseph and Alice married Claire Marie Beaulieu, daughter of Joseph George Henry Beaulieu and Mildred Anna LeClair. Claire's French-Canadian ancestry contains families with many branches extending into the 1600's or earlier. Claire died on September 4, 2016 in Altamonte Springs, FL. Richard died in July 2020.
