In my family, there is a legend from more than one source that Mary is the 2nd cousin of President Ulysses S. Grant. Being the genealogist that I am, I would like to prove this connection. In order to make this claim, let's examine the following chart. The pedigree shows both Mary and Ulysses sharing common great-grandparents, and is the only logical chart for 2nd cousins.

Now let's examine the children of Noah Grant Jr. and Susanna Delano. There are 4 known children: Noah, Susannah, Peter, and Solomon. We can rule out Solomon, as he died young. That leaves Peter Grant. Peter was born abt. 1752 in Coventry, Tolland, CT and died in 1784 (at sea) while living in Lyme, Grafton, New Hampshire. His wife's name is unknown and it is unknown if he had any children. In order for Mary to be the 2nd cousin of Ulysses, Peter would have to have a son who migrated from the United States to Perthshire, Scotland before 1800 and then moved to Canada with his family in the late 1820's. A migration to Scotland from the United States seems unlikely, but possible. This missing link must be found to prove the connection. Any leads would be most appreciated !
