My White ancestors

The first four generations of Whites listed here are not proven and subject to much debate on the internet.  The connection of Eleanor Hungerford to royalty may have been recently established (click here).  However, there are some serious issues connecting the "Hampshire" White branch to the "Essex" Whites.  See the following links for more details. 01. John White was born abt 1350 in Yatley, England.  His wife's name was unknown.  

02. Robert White, son of John was born abt 1370 in Yatley, England.  He married Alice in 1421 in Swanborne.

03. John White, son of Robert and Alice was born in 1422 in Swanborne, Hampshire, England.  He married Eleanor Hungerford.

04. Robert White, son of John and Eleanor was born abt 1446 in Swanborne, Hampshire, England.  He married Margaret Gaynsford, daughter of Nicholas and Margaret Sidney in 1467.  "He was age 14 at the time of his father's death. His wardship was granted in 1469 to Thomas St. Leger, esquie of the body, and Nicholas Gainsford, Esq. He was granted license to enter his father's lands 24 Feb. 1481. In 1483 King Edward V charged him to "prepare & furnishe" himself to receive knighthood at the King's coronation, an event that never took place. Gainsford, daughter of his guardian, Nicholas Gainsford, Esquire (d. 1498) of Carshalton, Surrey, admitted Lincoln's Inn, 1452/3 King's servitor and Usher of the Chamber, 1461-1476, usher to Elizabeth Wydeville, queen consort for King Edward IV, 1476-1498, sheriff of Surrey and Sussex, Knight of the Shire (M.P.) for Oldiham Castle, 1461-1486 and his wife, Margaret Sydney of Surrey."  Source: New England Historical and Genealogical Register Vol. 154

05. Robert White, son of Robert and Margaret was born abt 1475 in Swanborne, Hampshire, England.  He married Elizabeth Inglefield.  

06. Thomas White, son of Robert and Elizabeth was born abt 1495 in Marriot, Somerset, England.  He married Agnes abt 1514.  Thomas died before 1549 in Somerset.

07. Richard White, son of Thomas and Agnes was born abt 1519 in Minot, Somerset, England.  He married Helen Kirton, daughter of Stephen Kirton and Margaret Offley before 1542.  Richard died in May of 1578 in Hill Farence, Somerset, England.

08. Robert White, son of Richard and Helen was born abt 1542 in South Petherton, Somerset, England.  He married Alice Wright abt 1557.  Robert died on September 7, 1600 in Messing, Essex, England.

09. Robert White, son of Robert and Alice was born abt 1558 in Shalford, Essex, England.  He married Bridget Allgar, daughter of William Allgar and Margaret Parye on June 24, 1585 in Shalford.   His will was dated May 27, 1617, and indicates he lived for considerable time in the parish and was quite wealthy. He gave to support the poor of Messing, and to Rev. Richard Rogers, a non-conformist, and Rev. Bartholomew Scrivener an established church minister.

10. Mary White, daughter of Robert and Bridget was born on August 24, 1590 in Shalford, Essex, England.  She married Joseph Loomis, son of John Loomis and Agnes Lingwood on June 30, 1614 in Messing, Essex, England.  The family sailed from London, England 11 April 1638 on the ship "Susan and Ellen," and arrived in Boston, Mass. 17 July 1638.  They had 8 children.  I descend from their Son John Loomis who married Elizabeth Scott.  Presidents who share this White ancestry include Grover Cleveland, Ulysses S. Grant, and Millard Fillmore.
